Who we are

Nature For Health Foundation (NFH) is committed to a world in which nature and health go hand in hand. Since its founding in 2013, we have been working as a non-profit organization to create a better living environment and a higher quality of life.

We believe that nature and a nature-based approach not only contribute to our well-being but can also strengthen healthcare and help reduce healthcare costs. That’s why we initiate projects on both local and international levels.

Sweden and the Netherlands
NFH was born out of a collaboration between the Netherlands and Sweden. Scientist Patrik Grahn and entrepreneur Bert van Helvoirt found common ground in their shared interest in nature-assisted health.

A platform for collaboration
Scientists, social organizations, entrepreneurs, governments, healthcare institutions, and community initiatives — we need each other. We collect and share knowledge, inspiration, and experience. We translate this into practical applications that support social innovation and strengthen the role of nature.

A new perspective on health
We embrace the concept of positive health and promote a nature-inclusive way of thinking and acting within the healthcare sector, the green sector, and government policy. A healthy natural environment, in our view, is the foundation for health and well-being — and for a healthy society.

From knowledge to practice
By connecting knowledge and practice, we help make the healthcare sector more nature-inclusive and integrate health more deeply into the green sector. We also support the development of evidence-based business models centered around nature and health. In doing so, we contribute not only to a healthier society but also to sustainable and future-proof solutions.

“We believe in a future where people and nature are not separate but strengthen one another. What is good for nature is good for us — and vice versa. We are not just surrounded by nature; we are part of it.”

Our ambitions

We have big ambitions

Between 2019 and 2022, NFH focused on four themes and fostering knowledge exchange and inspiration. This policy, outlined in the NFH Business Plan 2019-2022, was extended until 2024.

At the end of 2024, the NFH Council established the Midterm Strategy 2025-2028. This strategy, based on the Theory of Change and the Social Canvas Model, sets the course for NFH in the coming years. The focus is on two core themes:

  • Healing environments for people and nature

  • Nature as a means for health & health as support for nature

These include programs such as ‘Greening the healthcare sector,’ ‘Nature on Prescription,’ and mental health, with special attention to young people.

The structure of NFH is symbolically represented as a tree:

  • Roots & trunk – Our mission and the NFH Community as a solid foundation.

  • Branches & leaves – Our strategic and content-related activities.

While there are still steps to take, particularly in terms of funding and organizational development, we are proud of our impact. The challenges are significant, but the opportunities are just as impressive.

Remuneration policy

The NFH statutes describe the NFH remuneration policy in article 3, section 5:

“All Council members may receive compensation for the costs that they have reasonably incurred in the performance of their duties and that have been approved in advance by the Council and/or the Managing Director. The Council may award one or more Council members vacation pay as compensation. Insofar as this does not conflict with the foundation having a Public Benefit Organization status, it is possible for members of the Council with an “executive function” to receive compensation for their work.”

Any compensation and remuneration will be included in the annual accounts.

Would you like to contribute to the foundation’s objectives through your work or as a volunteer? We are looking for a broad diversity, in which everyone contributes from their own talents, knowledge or skills. You are most welcome. Please contact us via info@nfhfoundation.com
